I have a MacbBook Air running OS X Yosemite. It goes through periods where iTunes keeps opening itself repeatedly. It never plays any music or loads any URLs. But I can't figure out what is causing the app to open.

This problem is more common than you might think. It turns out that the headphone port also handles signals from your remote control, like Vol Up, Play, Pause, etc. If you have a faulty headphone jack, your laptop can think you've pressed the Play button, triggering iTunes to open.

The only answer is to get your headphones repaired or replaced :s
